Emergency Management Officer

Are you an Emergency Management super-star who wants to make a positive difference in our community?  

We are looking for an experienced Emergency Management Officer to join us in our brand-new purpose build facility in Palmerston North.  Your work will involve supporting the delivery of Civil Defence and Emergency Management services in the community and coordinating internal capability initiatives to ensure our staff are ready to respond. 

Your proven experience in emergency management operations, and effective communication skills, will be put to good use when you provide information to community groups on how they can prepare for the unexpected. Likewise, your strong relationship management skills will assist you to work across the organisation to build the internal profile of emergency management and increase engagement with other teams involved in supporting an emergency response. Previous experience in adult education and training will be an advantage.

In the event of an emergency, you will be responsible for making crucial decisions. Having a strong understanding of the Civil and Emergency Management Act, Health and Safety at Work Act and associated regulations will be key to making the best decision while considering the impacts and risk. Your high degree of initiative and ability to work autonomously is essential.

You will be well organised and able to set priorities to deal effectively with a variety of tasks. Flexibility is a must as you will be required to work outside normal working hours in the event of a Civil Defence emergency. A Class 1 driver’s licence is essential.

Drug and Alcohol Testing

As part of the Council's Management Team Drug and Alcohol Policy, to ensure the safety of those who come into contact with Council, applicants for employment in safety sensitive positions must undergo a drug test before being employed.
