Service Guide - Fixed Term

We are looking for a friendly and helpful person with customer service experience to join our team of Service Guides.   As a Service Guide you will enjoy working with people from all walks of life as they explore Palmerston North library facilities. You’ll take personal satisfaction from delivering a warm, welcoming, and professional service to those who visit either in person or over the phone. You will take an active interest in what is happening in the community, and endeavour to connect people and groups with relevant content, programmes, events, and services.

Your previous experience in a customer-centric environment and understanding of the application of Manaakitanga (hospitality) will be invaluable in this role.

The role involves working at rostered service points where you will answer a variety of questions and help people with checking out resources or troubleshooting computers and devices with e-books, databases, scanning, wi-fi etc. It also involves working in Returns and shelving. You will need to have a friendly and positive disposition, and be able to engage and communicate well with a wide range of people in our community who come to library facilities. You’ll also need to be adept at continuous learning with changing technology devices, platforms, systems and picking up new information and processes. The role does involve being on your feet for extended periods of time and lifting heavy boxes so physical fitness is a must. Resilience and a sense of humour are also important.

The position is 20 hours per week worked on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays.

This position is fixed term in nature as the current incumbent has been seconded to another position within the unit. The length of the fixed term is expected to be approx. 8 months.
