Palmerston North is a vibrant city, proud of its diverse residents which include a significant youth population.

The Youth Services team is looking to evolve the way that it engages with the youth of the city. The team wants to lift the bar in building relationships, empowering and providing a sense of belonging for youth.

The Youth Services Coordinator role is there to shape the experience youth have in our city. You will be working as part of a team combining library, youth and community services that inspire the youth of the city.  

You will bring with you a confidence and passion for developing and engaging with youth. You will have a solid understanding of youth life, aspirations and development that enables you to be a role model for youth and community.  The successful applicant will have a commitment to manaakitanga. Experience in an environment where youth are among client groups is highly desirable, for example, experience at a youth health provider, library or education provider.

Above all, you will excel in contributing to the Youth Services Team; promote its brand and be an agent for ongoing change.

The team also runs a dedicated Youth Space that provides a safe and welcoming environment within which young people can spend time and explore opportunities for social and personal development.  The multi-purpose space is utilised for a range of activities aimed at 13 - 19 year olds including youth services, events, and programmes.

This is a casual position and the days and hours of work will be on an as required basis across 6 days .   It may involve working evenings and weekends as required. We want to hear from you!

Drug and Alcohol Testing

As part of the Council's Management Team Drug and Alcohol Policy, to ensure the safety of those who come into contact with Council, applicants for employment in safety sensitive positions must undergo a drug test before being employed.
